弊社のイベントではギターで大活躍してくれた
アメリカ人の良き友人が家に遊びに来てくれました・・・

As an American who has lived in Japan for nearly 20 years, I confess that I
have never seen such a house here as the one built and owned by my good
friend, Deto. Situated in a picturesque valley of rice fields and
traditional Japanese farmhouses, Deto's home blends in with its surroundings
better that you would expect, that is, for an English Tudor-style country
home circa 1600. Its earthy wood and stone exterior instantly makes you feel
that this house belongs here. People are instinctively drawn to it, both for
its exoticness and for its hominess. In fact, the house reminds me of...
well... of me - a foreign transplant that stands out, but nonetheless fits
in and even flourishes in the rich soil of Japan. Spending the night here
filled me boyish excitement. I felt like I was staying in a house where a
hobbit might live, or where a fairy might appear, or a place that Harry
Potter might visit to practice his magic. It is a house that fuels the
imagination and warms the heart.

The interior has an organic charm - the charm of a space that is, above all,
a space made for humans to live, for families to grow, for kids to play and
explore. The dents and scratches of daily life only add to its sturdy
beauty. Parents don't have to say to their kids, "Be careful! Don't touch
that! You'll break it!" They can sit back and relax knowing that their
children's "damage" will become part of their treasured memories in the
future, etched in the timeless décor. The stone floors and heavy wooden
beams make you feel safe. The house feels permanent - like it has always
been here, and always will be.

My family and I slept cozily in the loft, which is the only room in the
house with tatami mats, the room where East meets West. Waking up in the
country, I always feel refreshed in a way that I never quite achieve in the
city. I can't wait to get outside, to take a walk or just sit on the deck
and soak up the sights and sounds of nature. Ahh! Country living at its
finest!

アメリカ人である私が、日本に来て２０年近くになりますが、良き友人の
出戸さんが、自ら建てて住まわれている、いまだかつて見たことがない家。
それはまるで絵を見ているかのようで、日本の田園風景や伝統的な農家の中で、
皆さんが思う以上に周りになじんでいるのです。
このような家を、皆さんにも知ってもらいたいです。

それは温もりある木材と石のエクステリアだからこそ、
この家がここに属する感じがします。

皆ここに来ると、その風変りさと居心地のよさから本能的にこの家に引き込まれてしまいます。

この家を見ると自分を思い出します・・・・・・・。
外国人である自分のような存在・・・・。「目立つけれどうまく溶け込んでいる。」
実際のところ、その際立った外観から国外から移植したとも感じますが、
だからと言って違和感がなく、それどころか日本の田園風景の中に溶け込んでいます。
ましてや見事に開花しています。
ここで夜を過ごした時は、少年の頃の心に戻りました。

hobbit（ロードオブザリングに登場するホビット）が住んでいそうとか、
妖精が出てきそうとか、ハリーポッターがその魔法を練習しにやってきそうだ！
とか・・・なんて思いがめぐってきました。
イマジネーションがかき立てられ心が暖まるんです。

ここのインテリアには、本質的に人の心に届く魅力を持っています。
空間としての魅力、とりわけ人がそこで充実した生活をし、家族が成長し、子供たちが遊び、
探検できるようなそんな空間なのです。
いたるところにあるへこみや、傷あとは‟　たくましさ ”という美点になり、
両親は子供達に、「気を付けなさい！」「そこは触るな！」「壊しちゃうでしょ！」
なんて言わなくてもすむんです。
ただ、座って子供たちが残していく‟　傷跡”、すなわち家中にエッチングされた、
時間を超えた子供たちの‟　作品 ”が、やがて将来、彼らの宝石ともいうべき
メモリーとなっていくのを心地よく眺めることでしょう。

石のフロアーや重厚な木のはりは、見ている私たちを安心させてくれます。
この家は、ずっと前からここに在り、そしてずっと在り続ける・・・・・と。
そんな感じが伝わってくるのです。　　

私は家族とともにこのロフトで寝たことがあります。
そこだけ、畳があり、和と洋が融合した場です。
田舎で目を覚ますと、町中で決して味わうことのない、すがすがしさをいつも感じます。
こんなときは外に出たくてたまらず、あたりを散歩したり、ただデッキに座り自然の美しさに
わが身をゆだねています。
あーーーーー！　　田舎の生活は最高！！
